Learning through Games Football provides a ‘games based’ approach to teaching and coaching young children football skills and uses practices that develop an understanding and awareness of the skills, tactics, strategies and rules required to succeed in games. The game is the focus, challenging children to think about what they are doing and why, and providing enjoyment in their learning of skills. Promoted by the Football Association, it is the essential resource for every teacher and coach of young children.
The content is based on 10 fun football games (demonstrated and explained visually through video) that progress from a simple dribbling game through to those which are more complex and involve creating and using space.
Each game also features Tacklesport’s original 2D animation. This enables the user to understand how the game should ideally work and what the set-up should look like. A detailed written explanation is included for the organisation and description of the game. Ways of how to adapt it to suit individual needs are also provided.
Aligned to each game are a number of animated Make a Difference activities. These allow the user to maintain the ‘fun’ element of teaching and coaching game related skills whilst maintaining the ‘Game’ as the key focus.
Key skills for each game are also identified. These may be accessed and viewed in both video and animated formats. By combining related games and skills the teacher or coach may easily plan a session around a theme or develop a specific aspect of the game. These key skills may also be accessed in isolation, providing quick access to the key focus points to put across during the related practices. As with all the videos of the resource, the Key Skills may be viewed in slow motion for detailed observation of key points of technique.
